Google may soon launch an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet made by HTC, as per a new report.
HTC Volantis is the name of the 8.9-inch Nexus tablet, according to Android Police. The site claims to have received information on the possible specs, features, pricing, and even on the form factor of the said device, which is internally called Nexus 9. It mentions that the tablet’s existence has been confirmed by multiple sources.
As per the website, the Nexus 9 tablet sports an 8.9-inch display(2048x1440p) with a 4:3 ratio. Unlike Nexus 7(2013), the new tablet will be powered by an NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor and 2GB RAM.
The tablet will supposedly come in 16 and 32GB internal storage variants and will sport an 8MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 3MP front-facing camera.
The report also sheds some light on the form factor of the tablet. The tablet will feature aluminium, zero-gap construction with tapered sides and will weigh 418gram. It will feature stereo, front-facing speakers similar to HTC’s recent smartphones.
The tablet appears to be a premium offering and as per the report, will be priced starting at $399 for the 16GB version, and $499 for the 32GB version.
The render of the tablet published by the website, does not correspond to the design and features listed by it. It doesn’t have a 4:3 ratio, aluminium chassis or front speaker. So it is possible that the image is an early draft. The tablet is expected to release in Q4 2014. However, the report comes with a disclaimer that there may be some changes before the release.
